February 28, 2013 – The legendary Austin Pendleton, one of stage and screens most celebrated actor, director, writer, teacher and long-time supporter of Broadway Theatre Project, was cast as the obsessed and repressed Angelo in a star-studded reading of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure”.

The Frog and Peach Theatre Company’s production was a one night only reading presented at the New York Landmark, The Players Club. Other cast members included, Saturday Night Live’s Darrell Hammond as Pompey, Frog and Peach company members Ted Zurkowski as Lucio, Amy Frances Quint as Isabel, Eric Doss as Provost, Ryan Tramont as Escalus, Erick Gonzalez as Claudio and Jonathan Reed Wexler as Elbow. The reading was directed by Lynnea Benson, Artistic Director of Frog and Peach Theatre Company, and was accompanied with an original score composed and performed live by Ian McDonald (King Crimson, Foreigner). The Gala will benefit Frog and Peach Theatre Company’s upcoming production of “Titus Andronicus,” to be presented April 25 to May 19, 2013 at The West End Theatre, 263 W 86th Street.
Later this year, Austin will be joining Broadway Theatre Project’s 23rd Season once again as a guest artist. Austin’s Broadway credits include: roles in noted production of “The Diary of Anne Frank”, “Grand Hotel”, the original productions of “Oh Dad, Poor Dad”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The Last Sweet Days of Isaac” (Drama Desk Award & Obie Award). Off-Broadway: Classic Stage Company’s revival of Anton Chekhov’s, “Ivanov”, “Three Sisters” and “Uncle Vanya”, The Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of “The Birthday Party”, Abingdon Theatre Company’s “The Last Will”. Film credits include: “What’s Up Doc?, “Catch 22”, “Amistad, “Trial and Error”, “A Beautiful Mind”. TV appearances include: “Frasier” and a recurring role in HBO’s acclaimed series “Oz”. Other credits include Playwright: “Orson’s Shadow” and “Booth and Uncle Bob”, Director: “Spoils of War”, and “The Runner Stumbles”, Teacher: HB Studio and The New School.

The 23rd Season of Broadway Theatre Project will take place on July 7- 28, 2013. Austin joins the ranks of Gregory Hines, Julie Andrews, Joel Grey, Jed Bernstein, and Patti Lupone, among many others as a guest faculty member at the Project.
Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization celebrating its 23rd anniversary in 2013, is the renowned musical theatre intensive that provides its apprentices with critical training in the disciplines of acting, dancing and singing, taught by a faculty of accomplished educators and performers. As part of its mission, the program strives to engender students with the personal skills necessary to work and survive in the professional world of performing arts. Sessions are held annually every July in Tampa on the campus of the University of South Florida. 2013 Artistic Directors are Debra McWaters and Darren Gibson.
